I have travel trailer and it has car battery installed near the hitch to power the power inverter to provide A?

I have travel trailer and it has car battery installed near the hitch to power the power inverter to provide AC power inside the trailer. question is how can the battery be charged when it is depleted? how can it be connected to my SUV's alternator to have it charged?I have travel trailer and it has car battery installed near the hitch to power the power inverter to provide A?
some trailers have a seven wire plug that can also be set up to charge the battery while you are going down the road. the problem is, you need a heavy duty alternator to make this work on a long term basis. Talk to either a U haul dealer who you can pay to wire this up with a universal plug, or do what I did , I just took my battery charger with me on the road, and when I got to an RV park I plugged the trailer in , then plugged the charger into the outside plug and put it on 2 am charge and charged the rv battery overnight. RV stores, and places like wal mart sell plastic battery boxes with covers and straps. You protect the battery from all types of weather, and I could put the charger under the trailer if it was raining and still charge it slow overnight if necessary.I have travel trailer and it has car battery installed near the hitch to power the power inverter to provide A?
.

it should be normally wired thru your light wiring to accept an charge....

if not you can precharge it with an battery charger then when your camping you can hook it to your ride with jumper cables and recharge it. Also check if it has an cord that you can plug into the trailer it may be wired up to provide power to the battery for you.

have fun

Travel trailer refrigerator question?

I have a 2010 wildwood travel trailer and I am planning on going on a long road trip. It comes with 2 thirty gallon propane tanks that can run the refrigerator. My question is how long can my 2 tanks run the refrigerator?Travel trailer refrigerator question?
Propane refrigerators are relatively economical for consumption. If you can find the rating plate on the appliance it should list the btu's of the burner. It probably is no more than about 2500 btu's...

The quick and dirty formula for consumption is that 100,000 btu's will burn 1 gallon in 1 hour. So 100,000 梅 2500 = 40. You are going to use 1 gallon of propane every 40 hours. A gallon of propane is 4.2 Lbs roughly, so you have about 7 gallons of propane in a 30lb cylinder. 14 gallons ( 2 cylinders ) x 40 hours = 560 hours...divided by 24 hours is just over 23.

So...after all that confusing math...you have about 3 weeks supply for your refrigerator if it is running under full load all the time. I would say you easily have a months worth of propane supply there.Travel trailer refrigerator question?
Can I assume you meant 30 pound and not 30 gallon? 30 pound cylinders are typical on most larger travel trailers and fifth wheels. A 30 pound cylinder will hold 7 gallons when filled. That's about 80% of its total volume but propane cylinders are not filled completely to allow for expansion of the gas at warmer temperatures.

If you're just running the refrigerator then your two full cylinders will last a two to three months or more. But most times you will also be using the stove top, oven and furnace. The furnace being the biggest consumer. In the winter I can go through two cylinders in eight days. In the summer, not using the furnace much or at all, I can go a month or more.

Keep in mind there will always be places along your way where you can refill the cylinders. Many campgrounds and RV parks sell it as well as gas stations. So as long as you plan ahead, just a little, you won't have to worry about running out.

Generally, RV refrigerators are designed to work on either propane or 120 volts however the control board needs 12v to operate.

Steven Fletcher - Full Time RVerTravel trailer refrigerator question?
I thought the fridge runs off of 12 volts taken from the trailer harness or the trailer battery.

The propane runs the heater (furnace) and the stove/oven

How do i mount a vent cover on a travel trailer?

I bought a vent cover for my travel trailer and it came with no instructions on how to mount it. Help! How do i mount a vent cover on a travel trailer?
It should have some holes in it for screws. Screw the vent where you want it (preferably over the vent).

You sound like the vent opening is already there since it is a vent cover,How do i mount a vent cover on a travel trailer?
Take the vent and measure the inside openning at bottom of vent lay out this measurement on the trailer where you want it cut it out and if this vent has a inside section make sure it fits hole and put some silcone caulk on flange of vent and screw in on.

Can I tow a 23 foot travel trailer with my 30 foot RV?

Can my 30 foot RV tow my 23 foot travel trailer? Is that even legal, if it is possible? I live in BC, Canada

Thanks! Can I tow a 23 foot travel trailer with my 30 foot RV?
I know several people that travel with a tag-a-long towing a car towing a boat. So yes it can be done, with care. But you will need to check with DOT(department of transportation) as to the legality in the states or provinces) o travel through. I also have a friend who drives a 45' Marathon and he tows a 30' Class "C".

Also lkeep in mind it will be real slow going in hills and mountains and you MPG will drop dramatically.

Take care and whatever you do have fun doing it!
See what the towing limits are for your coach, but I would say no unless the TT is really light. It would be a real strain on the drivetrain of the coach. I have seen pickups with campers pulling a TT but again, it is a real load on the vehicle doing the pulling. Can I tow a 23 foot travel trailer with my 30 foot RV?
you best ask your dept. of motor vehicles.
be careful of your turning, not much room in beteewn units. Can I tow a 23 foot travel trailer with my 30 foot RV?
the capability and leagality are two differant things. Yes it is possible you first have to see what the towing capibilitys are of your RV it should be in your owners manual or ask an RV dealers. As far as legality you need to contact your local licences office.

What is the markup on a new travel trailer?

OK, we know there is some "real cost" in the manufacture of a travel trailer--including overhead, etc. Let's say a unit lists for $20,000 on a dealer lot. What do you think is the ACTUAL invoice amount for such a trailer? (Not including delivery, dealer prep, interest, etc.)

Thanks, The RoamersWhat is the markup on a new travel trailer?
Its about 30-40% is the list price but most dealerships show list and go down from that, search the Internet for the lowest price and deal with the dealer from your area so you can get it serviced

  • Has anybody ever redone the interior of a travel trailer?

Im looking at a travel trailer that needs work on the interior. I am a pretty handy guy And I figure I can do the work myself. I guess what I am wondering is what materials a required and what are some of the pitfalls. It is a 79 that wasnt maintained so I am pretty sure ther is a lot of work to be done. I may have to gut the whole thing. Oh yea its 27' long.Has anybody ever redone the interior of a travel trailer?
I have a 76 model 35 foot fifth wheel I'm working on luckily though it was in good condition. The main things I have run into is rotting spots from water leak. Seems like all the demention are different from regular home work. I cool sealed the top then about a month later I cool sealed it again. that took care of the leaks. Now I don't know exactly what you plan to do but I put a regular house refrigorator and toliet . If you do this make sure you secure the real good so they will hold up the travel pressure. Travel Trailers connection can't handle the extra wieght by themselves. Also make sure all cabinet keep travel trailer door latches. Just keep in mind the pressure that happen during movement and make sure you take measures to help prevent but be careful not to wiegh it down to much cause the suspension won't hold up. by the way the good thing is the older models like we have are built tougher.Has anybody ever redone the interior of a travel trailer?
I have done one. It was a 88. It was shaped like a rectangle, for the most part. So I took it apart like a box the top the sides the floor.

I replaced all the wood 1x1's all the insulation, all the electrical, all the gas/waste lines. Replaced the bearings, rebuilt the floor. Undercoated the frame. Painted the alluminum sides/top. Screwed everything back together while applying sealent where needed.

It was a lot of work and took a lot of time for something that only gets used a couple of times a year. But, I saved a lot of cash by doing it by myself insted of buying a new one.

If you have the time/room to do it. It is fairley easy. You just need to weigh how much your time is worth to rebuild the camper against how much a new/newer camper will cost.

I got the one that I gutted for free. So, after $1500 in new materials and about 70 hours I had a like new camper.

If you do decide to do it. Take photos. If you decide to sell it later on(as with any thing) photos will help.

GoodluckHas anybody ever redone the interior of a travel trailer?
you just have to start in and go, however where i am located campers in better shape, are cheaper than a complete remodel job. you can look online for bluebook prices, and adjust your costs as how much money you may be getting into.
Unless you plan on keeping it for yourself, and the pride of saying I did that, it isn't going to be worth the work you put into it, especially if you attempt to sell it.

BY all means do it if you have the space to work, tools to MAKE what you need, and the required skills. Be prepared to search for the hard to find parts. The economy is going to be your biggest adversary.

Don't start anything your neighbors will object to.

What is it like to own a camper/travel trailer?

The kids and I would like to get a "travel trailer" camper under 30 feet. We think camping on the weekends would be fun. My hubby thinks it is just another hassle and says he does not want to mess with winterizing it, upkeep etc. Is winterizing difficult? Could I get some input from others that have campers, basically is it a pain the butt to own one, or worth it? Please tell me the positives and negatives. Thank you!!What is it like to own a camper/travel trailer?
If your husband is not hot for the idea, forget it. You will not be able to hook everything up, tow it, and then UNhook everything by yourself, so it will spend the majority if not ALL it's life sitting.

Even when husbands are the main one pushing for buying one, they STILL sit a lot.

My advice for you if you're determined to get something is check out a slide in truck camper. You need a 1 ton truck to do it right.

Sorry I don't know about winterizing. I live in Ca..What is it like to own a camper/travel trailer?
The positives are: It's comfy to camp in.

The negatives are: The initial cost is crazy, the upkeep cost is crazy, taxes on it are crazy, do you have a place to store it, Are the neighbors going to complain about it sitting at your house, Is it going to sit for months at a time and need cleaned and repaired every time you want to use it, will the roof start leaking and ruin the interior the first time it gets ice or snow on the roof, will the heat air conditioning and plumbing work when you get where you are going, can you get where you are going with an over sized vehicle, can you do repairs and maintenance yourself, is there a dealer close to where you live so you can get astronomically priced parts when you need them, you have to empty the septic system, you have to drain everything and add antifreeze in the winter and the list goes on and on.

It is a money pit, the value always goes down, never up. It is not an investment, it is a luxury and an expensive one at that.

So I guess if you have plenty of money, go for it.What is it like to own a camper/travel trailer?
For a camper to be economical, it needs to be used several times a year to justify the initial expense. You need to make sure you have a vehicle to tow it and do you have a place to park it while not in use without having to pay for storage. Do not buy a NEW RV for your first experience. Winterizing is not expensive.

What kind of bowl or what can I do to have a water bowl for my cat in a travel trailer that won't spill?

We want to take our cats on our travel trailer, and of course they need water. I was thinking of using Velcro or suction cups to keep the bowl in place, but this won't necessarily keep the water from spilling out...any ideas? What kind of bowl or what can I do to have a water bowl for my cat in a travel trailer that won't spill?
You can take the mentioned anti-spill-bowl that you can buy at any petstore, which has a overhanging lip that prevents any spillage, and put it onto either a rubber surface or carpeting. Either way it won't spill and they can have water when and if they want without it causing a problem. I wouldn't suggest the water bottle though, even though if it's a good make it takes more than a bump to spill, you would need to train your cats to use them.
Either get a very deep bowl and only put a tiny bit of water in it or only give them water once you're stopped.

How long are you taking a trip with these cats? Probably a far better idea to leave them at home. What happens when one of them dashes outside when you're out in the middle of nowhere?

edit: a water bottle is a HORRIBLE idea as the bouncing of the car will make the water come dribbling right out. What kind of bowl or what can I do to have a water bowl for my cat in a travel trailer that won't spill?

Do what Tom R suggests to see if they're out. Axles rely on the leaf spring center bolts to stay in alignment also. If one of these is broken, the axle will shift. Only thing wont run an A.C., you would have to bump up to a 3500 and thats a big unit. Just depends on what you want to do with it. Add an inverter and you can do a lot with that and charge the batterys every couple days.

Trailers sold in that price range often need roof repairs. Also they are very used, check the wheel bearings and condition of electric brakes (if any). Be sure to bleach the water tan a couple times if you intend to use it for drinking.

I'd be too scared to do that. That area would still get TS force winds at least so you'd better go further inland. Also you will get freaked out under Tornado warnings all day and night long. How much wind can a 27 ft travel trailer take?
    1) The weakest part of a hurricane is the southwest quadrant. So it's always best to evacuate in that direction.

    2) Ike's path is not set in stone. Wait until it clears Cuba before deciding to evacuate.

    3) Mobile homes and rv trailers are extremely susceptible to tipping over in high winds. Anything over 50 mph and you're asking for trouble.

Where will you set it up? You will have to empty the holding tank pretty often unless you set up at a campground where they have sewerage hook ups. Expect to p[ay around 30 dollars a day to stay there too.

Maybe you should just look for a room mate.

It just so happens that i lived in a camper for a year while building my house. This is what i did. I slide my water line into a three inch pvc pipe all the way to the camper,i wrapped house insulation around it and covered it with loose dirt.I placed hay bales all around the camper so as to create a dead air space. I hooked my septic pipe up to a home made tank(old Fuel Tank) and made a quick leach field.I lived in it all winter with no problems other then running out of propane one night(damn near froze to death)i had no problems at all. I live in northern New York and it does get cold here. How will my travel trailer withstand winter? I will need to live in it for a year in southern Ohio.?

My parents just bought a Jayco travel trailer. Just looking at it, there doesn't seem to be a way onto the top bunk unless you use a stool. Can anyone help?? (I know this seems like a stupid question) :)How do you get into a travel trailer bunk bed?
There should be a place for your foot at the bottom on the side and you can climb right up. You better check it out before going camping as if this is not possible and you don't have a stool, you could be in a bit of trouble. You'd hate to ask for help each time you need to get into bed. How much per mile would it cost to hire someone to tow a 30 foot travel trailer?

I recently posted a question about the price by the mile to tow a travel trailer. The nice person who answered told me how much extra it would cost to move it with my car. Unfortunately, (in many ways), I drive a Ford Focus. So, obviously, I need to hire someone. Call around to the towing companies in your area. It will be wiser to allow a tow truck to move the trailer because the towing company is insured against losses were something to happen while en route with the trailer.

Well this is a easy one if this is what you mean.Backing the trailer up and the bumper hitting the

Have a spotter watching out.Another way is to move it by hand if it's not to big, with the castor on the tongue jack.It can be fixed.

What can provide power to a travel trailer while reusing its own power?

I need to know if there's a way to hook something up that will power a travel trailer while reusing its own energy to power itself. What can provide power to a travel trailer while reusing its own power?
In talking about "powering" a travel trailer, I am assuming you mean electricity. Electrical power is needed most by travel trailers, as they are pulled from place to place by a vehicle.

There is an entire industry that makes generators of electricity. Some generate 12 volt power for boats, cars, %26amp; trailers. Others generate 110 volt house-hold like energy to operate the house-hold like stuff on these "toys". Generators are engines that usually run on gas and are put in closets and other out-of-the-way places on the travel trailer. They can run on propane, diesel or natural gas, but good old gasoline is the most common.

Many of the generators are started by a battery connected to the generator. In order to make sure they will always start, they charge their own battery. So they do (in a way) power themselves.

Now if you're asking if they can make their own fuel source, and then deliver that fuel to another vehicle: That's the HOLY GRAIL of engineering. The perpetual motion machine if you will.

To date nothing we have in our technology can do that!!

What are the Pros and Cons of owning a travel trailer?

My husband and I are seriously thinking about purchasing a 28 ft, sleeps 6, (non expandable type, everything contained) travel trailer, and neither of us have had much experience with them. Can you help point out the pros and cons of operating one?

Thanks for your help. What are the Pros and Cons of owning a travel trailer?
    Hi Dog Mama,

there are a few things to think about when choosing whether or not to buy a travel trailer (caravan in the UK and Europe)

Some benefits you have probably thought of already...

Freedom...you can travel almost anywhere and stay more or less where you like cheaply and with complete freedom from the hotel/motel experiences, you will be able to stop when you are hungry, even if miles from a restaurant, when you want to eat or have a hot drink.

You can travel to places that don't normally cater too well for visitors and do it when YOU want to.

There are a few disadvantages...If you travel through mountain roads, you almost certainly will cause frustration to other road users who may get held up because your vehicle will be slower than normal. Your fuel consumption will rise, even (in fact especially) if you have an economical car, as the extra weight will affect the consumption quite a bit.

If your pulling vehicle is one with a fairly large engine/motor the difference will be noticeably less marked.

The handling of your vehicle will be affected and will be especially affected if there are high winds while you are travelling, so you will need to take extra care.

If you have never used a trailer/car combination before you may find that reversing becomes a problem (I suggest you practice somewhere suitable-a car park on a quiet day, perhaps- so you become familiar with how your steering has to work the opposite way round to get into a parking space. Do this BEFORE you set off into the wide blue yonder.

Also, still on parking, you may find it difficult to park in a city or busy town alonside the roadside kerb, as you will need possibly 40'-50' of parking space as a minimum to get the trailer and the vehicle into a space. ((At times I have 'parked' the trailer at the edge of town and driven in without it so to enable easier parking!)

You will, I'm sure, find plenty of other little dislikes and plenty more pleasures from owning a trailer.

I can recommend it...your vacation choices are vastly multiplied and your really do have freedom. Just think about travelling to a family occasion where there are more guests than beds...you'll have no problem. Also if, one night, you fancy a drink at a bar and you drink more than the law allows, you are already 'home' and will have no need to drive 'under the influence'.

You WILL, I am sure enjoy the experience and will soon become proficient in reversing, handling the extra weight, etc. and you'll not regret the decision...we haven't.

    Cheers,

    BobSpain

Do I need a ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL to tow travel trailer?

I have a f150 4x4 ext cab according to the spec guide the capacity of towing is 8500lbs. I am planning to buy a 4000lbs travel trailer 17-18"

I will be driving a lot of mountainroads with it.Do I need a ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL to tow travel trailer?
Yes, you will differently need it for your safety and the safety of the truck, trailer, load and other people.
YES! It's cheap insurance and peace of mind.Do I need a ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL to tow travel trailer?
    yes

it isnt how much your truck can pull, it helps control the trailer when you stop.

Your truck, when stopping, has good brakes. However, 4000+ lbs, not braking, becomes a rolling, deadly, potentially out of control weapon behind you if there are no brakes controlling it.
It would be a real good idea. You should be able to get all the wiring and hardware from the local Ford dealer. Trust me its the easiest way to go.Do I need a ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL to tow travel trailer?
Rex is right. If the trailer HAS brakes, you need to hook 'em up.

Your truck's brakes are not designed to stop it and another 4000# too.

You would be in trouble going down hills, as your brakes would overheat and fade out or cause the moisture in the lines to boil. this causes all kinds of problems, and sometimes deaths.
If the trailer has electric brakes, then you should add the brake controller. It will save your vehicles brakes and make towing so much easier and nicer. If the trailer does not have electric brakes, then you would be wasting your money as it wouldn't help.
I would...brakes will keep it from pushing your truck...
you probly dont need one but it would help

I have a 20' travel trailer that the previous owner powerwashed the paint off. I would like to repaint but need to know what type of paint will work and last on the travel trailer. What type of paint can I use for the outside of a travel trailer?
any brand of automotive paint. i would use acrylic enamal with clearcoat mixed in with the paint. doing a seperate clearcoat step the clearcoat will peel off in a few years like it does on some cars you see. with it mixed in with the last coats of paint makes it stay shiny and the acrylic enamal is better than any basecoat. its holds up great, and is cheaper than basecoat. I would use nason brand or omni brand paint. What type of paint can I use for the outside of a travel trailer?
For the metal sections use Rustoleum brand, for the siding use a vinyl siding approved paint that can flex with the heat expansion and contractions of the seasons.

How to get fridge working with propane in travel trailer?

I have a 69 travel trailer in great shape. The fridge works very well with electricity but when I put it on propane it does not work. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem. How to clean? ThanksHow to get fridge working with propane in travel trailer?
This is a really good question. I have a unit that's propane and the problem started in my tank. I had to get that unplugged first after filling it up, then the regulator had to be checked and worked on and then the line to the unit had to be examined, but that's where you are now. Are you smelling gas when you turn the gas on? You need to make sure its clean and then you should light the pilot light. But everything along the line should be checked out.How to get fridge working with propane in travel trailer?
Be sure the trailer is absolutely LEVEL.

Apparently the mechanism in the fridge requires it to be level for the proper movement of the gas that exchanges the heat. ( I know this sounds off the wall but it is what the operators manual for my trailer/fridge says)

Self contained has tanks for clean water, grey water, black water, and propane. They also have generators so you can have power without being plugged in. You can go camp in the woods without benefit of electrical, water, or sewer hookups. What is the difference between a self contained travel trailer and one that is not self contained?
self contained is what you want it has stove, fridge, bathroom facilities, sleeping area...

not self contained is a trailer used for moving things it is just a box..nothing elseWhat is the difference between a self contained travel trailer and one that is not self contained?
Self contained means it has cooking and bathroom facilities. One that was not self contained, means you would at least have to have toileting facilities nearby. If you want to live in this for 2 years you WANT one that is self contained.

    Travel trailers & generators?

Im going to purchase a 24 or 25 ft travel trailer in the near future and would like to attach a gasoline generator to it for powering the lights, microwave and air condition unit. (Most of the RV's in this class to not come equipped with one.) What would be the best way to accomplish this task? Thank you.Travel trailers %26amp; generators?
You should also attach an rv backup camera system. It could be hard to drive such a large vehicle and our rv back up camera has already helped thousands of autos reverse safely. To find out more information about the camera and purchase one, visit http://www.rearviewsafety.com.Travel trailers %26amp; generators?
Most travel trailers are 30AMP 120VAC service. This equates to approximately 3600 watts of power. Of course, that's a rough estimate since it depends on the type of load, etc. First thing to do is make sure you get a generator with enough capacity. Some generators, for example, are rated at 4000 watts, but only have 20AMP 120VAC circuits. Won't do any good. Make sure you have 30AMP capacity on 120V. There are many ways of mounting a generator to the trailer... rear bumper racks (be careful of weight) and tongue-mounted systems are both very popular. I'd suggest just sitting the generator on the ground rather than mounting it. Two reasons: First, the generator will be more easily accessible at home should the power fail. Second, with the generator on the ground, you won't feel the vibration of it running when you are trying to relax inside your camper.

Very small popup. Check the towing capacities in your owner's manual. It's going to be pretty low; the problem isn't as much the power of the truck as the suspension and brakes. Dakota's just aren't designed for towing.....
Depends on your truck 600lbs and not a high 1.POP up low profile.
anything up to 1200 pounds on it will be fine, you have to keep im mind that the amount of weight the trailer weighs is on wheels and the truck will pull it real easy, just make sure the trailer has brakes on it,some of the newer ones are light weight and i have seen some as long as 16 feet behind some v-6 engines,so length isn't the issue, weight is,keep the weight to a limit and you,ll do fine with it,good luck.
around 20 ft. it's not a high profile one.

why does everybody answer e-bay, go through a dealership unless you are buying one from someone you trust. You can look up the value of a particular model in NADA guides in the recreational vehicle section. Weight of your trailer is going to be a major consideration. Find out what the towing weight of your vehicle is. I found a chart at one time, I think I did a google search for towing weight. As someone already said there are way too many types of trailers on the market to recommend any particular one. Find one that has a floor plan you like and will be comfortable in and suits your needs. We looked for about a month on the weekends till we found one we liked. I ended up buying new for warranties and knowing what I had as far as problems. People don't always tell you what is wrong with something. What can I expect to pay for a used travel trailer?

How difficult is it to winterize a travel trailer camper?

The kids and I would like to get a "travel trailer" camper under 30 feet. We think camping on the weekends would be fun. My hubby thinks it is just another hassle and says he does not want to mess with winterizing it, upkeep etc. Could I get some input from others that have campers, basically is it a pain the butt to own one, or worth it? Please tell me the positives and negatives. Thank you!!How difficult is it to winterize a travel trailer camper?
Winterizing a trailer is very simple. There are two methods. One is by forcing all of the liquid out of the system by pressure or the more common method is by purchasing 10 gallons of RV antifreeze at WalMart or somewhere similar. It's pink in color. Typically in trailers you have 3 tanks. Fresh water, black water (sewage) and grey water (from the sinks). You add 9 gallons of winterizer to your water tank. Turn on the pump and run all the faucets and the toilet till pink runs from them. Shut them off. With the last bottle of winterizer, add a quart down the toilet and flush it. Add a quart down the kitchen drain(s) and bathroom drain. That's it. You are winterized. Very simple. When spring comes, drain the antifreeze from all tanks. Thoroughly flush the fresh water tank and pump through lines thoroughly before using water for drinking. Also, before you winterize, make sure your grey tank and black tank are empty and closed. It's very simple. Tell your lazy husband to go buy you a trailer and go have fun with your family. :-) LOL All in good humor. Good luck!

PS. The fun you get out of a travel trailer, in my opinion, is well worth the maintenance it needs. They don't require an awful lot of maintenance. A good wash once a year and cleaning it after camping. Anything you own requires maintenance. My best memories are growing up and going camping. It's worth it. Go get one. You can find a lot of nice used ones on Craig's list.

  • What would be a good insurance company to do business with for a travel trailer?

I live in a travel trailer full time. The area I live in will have Tornado Watches and Warnings. I would like to have insurance for my travel trailer so I don't wind up homeless. Any suggestions would help. ThanksWhat would be a good insurance company to do business with for a travel trailer?
Check out the ratings on this website.

    http://www.thestreetratings.com/HL_home.asp

These are the companies that would be most likely able to handle a catastrophic loss like a tornado. Might not be the cheapest, but good coverage. Then find a local agent to help you decide the best coverage for you. What would be a good insurance company to do business with for a travel trailer?
We work with alot of insurance companies. The easiest one we work with is Farmers Insurance they are great easy to do claims with and have a great policy. They may be a little more expensive (if any) but they are a great company to work with

Can a parked travel trailer blow over in high winds?

I have a 35 foot travel trailer and we are supposed to have winds 40-50 mph with gusts up to 80-90 mph today. It was ok through 60 mph winds but i am kind of wondering about the higher ones. Can a parked travel trailer blow over in high winds?
Yes. Find which way the winds are coming from and don't park it broadside. Park something on the windward side to break up the flow before it gets under the trailer. Or as said, park next to a large building that will require the wind to go around it anyway. Can a parked travel trailer blow over in high winds?
Yes. I take it that you have insurance.

You can't strap it down, that would cause roof damage.

You can't lean it into the wind, the wind direction might change.

I suggest parking it close to a building, as far as wind protection.

What makes a travel trailer a tax write off?

I am planning on purchaising a self contained travel trailer...is this considered a tax write off? what if I take out a personal loan for it?What makes a travel trailer a tax write off?
Generally, no, to both questions. There are no tax write-offs for personal loans or for vehicles used for personal travel.

However, if you use it for business, you can deduct the portion of your expenses that are attribute to business use.

Also, if it is legally a mobile home, rather than a vehicle, and you can obtain a mortgage instead of a personal loan, then you might be able to deduct the interest and the real estate taxes. What makes a travel trailer a tax write off?
The key is that the loan must be secured by the home or used for deductible purposes (from Pub 936):

"For you to take a home mortgage interest deduction, your debt must be secured by a qualified home. This means your main home or your second home. A home includes a house, condominium, cooperative, mobile home, house trailer, boat, or similar property that has sleeping, cooking, and toilet facilities.

The interest you pay on a mortgage on a home other than your main or second home may be deductible if the proceeds of the loan were used for business, investment, or other deductible purposes. Otherwise, it is considered personal interest and is not deductible."What makes a travel trailer a tax write off?
You can deduct the interest on the loan you have on the trailer as mortgage interest if the trailer is fully self contained (has eating, sleeping facilities and a bathroom) as a vacation home. The same is true with houseboats.

You can deduct the mortgage interest on your first 2 homes.

What would it cost to live on the coast (say Florida) in a travel trailer versus in a house?

I have an idea of what it costs to rent a space for a travel trailer in state parks on the beach. I'm curious how that compares to living in a small house in similar real estate. I think the travel trailer is much cheaper, but I have no idea how much cheaper. What would it cost to live on the coast (say Florida) in a travel trailer versus in a house?
You aren't very clear in your question. At first glance it seems that if you already have the travel trailer then that by far would be the cheapest way to go. After several thoughts you have to add in several extras. You have the townig charges which may be nothing more than some extra gas, or it could be a lot of extra gas, nights in motels. You can't camp in rest parks. Meals for however many, and then doing it again on the way back home.

How big is the trailer? How long are you going to be staying in it? How clost to the beach, prime spots are hard to get especially on short notice and for short stays. Flying and renting could be the best way to go. A lot of pricing is dependant on the season.

Without having more information the only thing I can suggest is to do a budget.pp

Is a golf cart and trailer attached to a travel trailer too heavy for my Sequoia?

I am worried that the trailer and golf cart might be too much for our toyota to pull or cause the whole unit to sway. We have weight distribution bars,a sway bar and brakes on the travel trailer, but not on my utility trailer. Has anyone done this before and if so do you have any suggestions for us before we invest in a golf cart that we can't haul.Is a golf cart and trailer attached to a travel trailer too heavy for my Sequoia?
If you are pulling a utility trailer behind another trailer, that is probably not legal. I'm not sure what state you are in but I know it is illegal in Michigan, where I live. Many travel trailers have a bumper hitch that can be used to put on a bike rack or cargo rack and are not made to tow other trailers with. I would check with the secretary of state or state police in your state to be sure. 5th wheel trailers are allowed to have another trailer behind it, but normal travel trailers usually are not allowed to have another trailer behind them. If you are allowed to tow two trailers there should be a gross weight to the travel trailer and the utility trailer. Most hitches will have a weight limit on them, for a Sequoia probably are 8,500 lbs and 10,000 with a weight distribution system. It's just a matter of adding the weight of the two trailers and finding if they are less than the hitch's capacity. Is a golf cart and trailer attached to a travel trailer too heavy for my Sequoia?
Dpending on if the golf cart is gas or electric the cart weighs 600-1000 lbs. Then add the weight of the trailer to that. It's illegal in some states to pull tandom trailers so check before even attempting it. The owners manual for the vehicle will tell you the maximum pulling weight. You couls also check at http://www.cartaholics.com/ and see what they tell you.Is a golf cart and trailer attached to a travel trailer too heavy for my Sequoia?
i'm not sure, but maybe ask the person you buy the golf cart from? or go and test it out.

  • I live in a 5th wheel travel trailer. No hot water coming out of shower?

I live in a 5th wheel travel trailer, in Ohio. We just got 5 inches of snow %26amp; the temp outside is now 12 degrees.

When I turn on the shower the cold water comes out, but no hot water. I tried turning each on one at a time, but no hot water comes out. I tried the bathroom sink %26amp; the kitchen sink and got hot water out of them.

Any suggestions on what I should check or do?I live in a 5th wheel travel trailer. No hot water coming out of shower?
If you get no water at all from the hot water valve in the shower, the line is probably frozen. Open the access panels on the outside if you can find the water line from the heater, and get some heat to the line to thaw it.I live in a 5th wheel travel trailer. No hot water coming out of shower?
it sounds like the the hot water line is not connected to the shower. I would check that.

Is there a gas savings between and RV and pulling a travel trailer?

We currently have a Class A Motorhome (RV) and are considering trading it and getting a pull behind travel trailer instead. We are thinking of doing this to get some gas savings. We already know what mpg we get with the motorhome. How can we tell how much less mpg we would get with our truck once it would start to pull a travel trailer? We are trying to figure out if we should stick with what we have, or if it makes sense to trade to the travel trailer option. Thanks for any advice. Is there a gas savings between and RV and pulling a travel trailer?
It is never easy moving down from the luxury of a Class A. Unless it is a fifth wheel you cannot ride in back while in motion. And if the truck does something unexpected you cannot run up front to see what happened. I don't think you will be happy. In order to pull a large travel trailer you will be uning a one ton truck which most likely have just as big of a Motor as your Buss. I don't know about safety studys just backing a trailer can be troublesome. Keep the big motor home as long as you can. Fuel saving is not worth the less luxury. Besides then you'll have Ford Dodge or Chevy truck to kick aroundIs there a gas savings between and RV and pulling a travel trailer?
    no

How much does a 1981 Coachmen travel trailer weight?

I'm thinking of buying a 24' coachmen travel trailer to bring the kids camping and such. My Ford Escape has a max of 3500lb (1587 Kg)towing capacity. The owner doesn't know what the weight is as they tow with a truck and it's no problem for them. Any feedback would be great. How much does a 1981 Coachmen travel trailer weight?
Ask the owner to either look on the ownership or have a look at the vin plate on the tongue to see the weight of the trailer. Not completely sure but I think that trailer Depending on the model comes in around 3500-3900 lbs, base weight, Depending on the gear inside. and with water tanks full you could easily exceed6000 lbs. Make sure whatever you get , that your trailer hitch is rated higher than what you tow. Check below for a comparable model to get some idea. Happy campingHow much does a 1981 Coachmen travel trailer weight?
You really should find a scale and have it weighed. Many large truck stops have them. You really want to weigh it packed and ready for travel as that's the weight your car is going to be towing. Manufacturers listed towing weights aren't always accurate as they are "Dry weight" or the weight without water in the fresh water tank and no stowables.

What is the cheapest way to get a bus or travel trailer to hawaii?

I have been consideringidering moving to the big Island, Specifically to the puna, pahoa area.

I was wondering if it would be cost efficient to load a bus or travel trailer with esential items. or just purchace them there? (bus, trailer and items)What is the cheapest way to get a bus or travel trailer to hawaii?
hard question!! hawaii is very expensive because most of the things there has to be shipped in by plane or ship from other places. that adds a lot to the costs. rice, pineapple, fish, and other native foods aren't as bad. but beef and wheat, bread all have to come from the mainland by ship. i don't know how much you would save by bringing your own stuff?? gas is the highest in the nation. and housing is only higher in california. my son in the army will be there next year, for a few years. What is the cheapest way to get a bus or travel trailer to hawaii?
Check with a moving company, they would give you a quote.

If you want to load your own 40' container, shipping it from California will cost about $8500 to Honolulu. Maybe a bit more to get to Puna (almost same as Hilo). This may help: http://hawaiilaunchteam.com/Documents/Co鈥?/a>

I'm not sure it's a good idea to bring a bus or travel trailer to the Big Island. There isn't anywhere to go on extended trips, and gas is expensive. If you had a farm or business, you'd have a pickup.

How much is the average travel trailer insurance rate?

Thanks. How much is the average travel trailer insurance rate?
Ask your insurance company. How much is the average travel trailer insurance rate?
A travel Trailer is covered for liability (damage you cause to others) while it's connected to your tow vehicle. If someone breaks into it and steals your property, (theft), it may be covered by your homeowner's policy. But if it catches fire and burns to the ground, the replacement value won't be covered unless you have a separate comprehensive policy for it.

You can go to any of the on-line insurance companies, like Geico or Progressive and they will give you a free quote, but I can tell you that it will be about in the $500 a year neighborhood. How much is the average travel trailer insurance rate?
    Hi,

No it is not a requirement. You can call your Insurance Agent and they will tell you the cost to add it to your policy for when it is being pulled by your vehicle.

Is there a deduction for travel trailer used for business?

My husband works for a company that leases his van and pays a monthly lease for it. All expenses are paid by the company on the Van (gas, battery, tires, etc). He works out in the oil field and bought a small travel trailer to stay in while on the jobs due to the fact that some of them are 24/7 for weeks. Is there any deduction for the trailer? He is also paid $30.00 per diem for meals %26amp; lodging. Can't find anyone that knows exactly how to list it or if you would have to report any income. Help!Is there a deduction for travel trailer used for business?
Yes he can write off 10% of the value in each tax year as depreciation. It's part of his needs to do the job over and above what is already claimed as your contribution in the ownership of the van.

Accommodation is a claimable deduction as are all the things he needs to keep himself in comfort. LPG for the stove, cooking utensils even bedding etc. I suggest you engage an accountant to do all these calculations for you as you could be missing out on quite a lot of rebate on tax breaks. You even claim the cost of the accountant! Is there a deduction for travel trailer used for business?
The only deduction I can think of right off the bat is depreciation.

What is the easiest way to level my travel trailer?

I have a 26 ft travel trailer and want to know if there is an easier way to level the trailer. I have manual crank down jacks and they tgake foreever. If I pjt a level in the middle od the floor of the camper would that be true level? What is the easiest way to level my travel trailer?
Get some safety jack stands, and start from the rear of the trailer first, by using the tongue jack. What is the easiest way to level my travel trailer?
you need to rethink your plan, its not that hard. you take three measurements on the front across the tongue for the side to side is one, across the back bumper for side to side is two and on the outside between the two wheels measure front to back level using the edge of the plastic fender. I get the trailer off the truck, crank the front of the tongue down below the hitch ball down low so the rear of the trailer comes up, ok? eyeball the two jack stands and stick them under the frame next to the bumper one on each back frame rail, . then jack the front end up, until you get the front to back level. you with me so far? go back and read it again, then go a bit higher on the front this time and put the two screw jacks under the front one on each side, and let the tongue down on the stands. Now its closer to being level both ways, and may need a little fine tuning. I used five gallon buckets to store the screw jacks, and those sorry sewer lines.and the hose ends, for traveling, the buckets can do double duty as trash containers in camp. just set the the buckets right in the bathtub when traveling and then set them outside when ready to set up. Its a good idea to bring adapters for your trailer plug some RV places are 30 amp and some are 50 amp and invest in the scissor like support for the sewer lines so the fluid has a straight shot from the tank to the sewer hook up. If you just let the lines lay on the ground full of yuk. they will rot really fast and are ruined. You also need to check and seal the roofs of a travel trailer once a year or so. I paid a friend who knew what I wanted to go up and seal the roof with this thick goo called plasticote every two years. Any time you move a travel trailer, the road literally pounds the crap out of your trailer. and leveling the trailer does different stresses to the whole trailer because it is kind of flexible anyway. to do the roof its best to never step on it. but find a thick plank that will go across the trailer from edge to edge. sit on that and do two coats of plasticote so the traveling does not pull the seams apart and then rain water runs down and eventually will rot a lot of the trailer floor over time. It does not matter, old or new a highway and city streets are much rougher than people think.

Most cities allow it for a time period.

call your city codes department and ask.Is it illegal to have a travel trailer parked outside and have occupants in it?

Where I live (in Iowa), you can have visitors for 30 days per year with their mobile home/travel trailer. This is covered by the Planning and Zoning Ordinance. Check with your P%26amp;Z dept. They may have to move their trailer to a campground or trailer park if it's an extended stay.
contact your local town office (from the govt pages in the phone book or online book) each town has different regs.
I do believe its illegal,, you might get away with it for a short time until a neighbor complains, try to move the camper in a location where it wont be in full view and if they watch the noise the neighbor might not complain%26gt;%26gt; good luck I know what its like to have a house hold of people

What wiring hook up for brake lights does a travel trailer from the 70s typically have?

I just bought a 17 foot Monitor 2 travel trailer from 1975, and I am having wiring hooked up to a hitch tomorrow. I will not have time to inspect the trailer until saturday (it is a good distance from where i live), when I have to pick it up. In the 1970s, was there one general type of wire hook up I can count on being the correct wiring hook up, or do I really need to inspect the end of the trailer's wiring before hand?

Thanks! What wiring hook up for brake lights does a travel trailer from the 70s typically have?
If you are trying to wire plug like the old days to a new truck , will not work . There is an adapter relay you will need . The trailer is on a typical 4 wire system and newer trucks are on 7 .What wiring hook up for brake lights does a travel trailer from the 70s typically have?
Well for your safety and others Yes. I would check all the lights in the rear of the trailer. They normally have the same wiring set up as we do today. Unless someone changed it that didn't know how. It takes a 4 wire connector either flat or round. They sell adapters for either.Don't exactly remember the colors, but I believe the Black is ground, the brown is tail light, and the green is right turn, the yellow is left turn. Remove the old tail light lenses on the trailer and remove the old bulbs if corroded replace and use a bit of sand paper wrapped on pen or penile and sand the inside of the sockets if corroded for better contact. Before connecting the trailer plug wire to your vehicle plug you can test each individual wire separate. with a jumper wire and a test light.Compare the wire colors and Connect each and look at the trailer light to come on. Check the ground for each light also where it connects on the trailer. good luck

How hard is it to pull a travel trailer?

My husband and I have been considering buying a travel trailer. Is it really hard to pull one? Is it white-knuckle the whole time? I have seen a few flipped on their sides on the freeway. Living in So Cal with so much traffic and fast drivers, is the stress of pulling the trailer worth it?? I drive a new Suburban. Any suggestions to make it easier to pull? How hard is it to pull a travel trailer?
If your truck and trailer combination is set up correctly, you won't really know it's back there. You have a good tow vehicle in the Suburban. You will just have to change your driving habits to compensate for the length and weight of the trailer added to the Suburban.

You will need more stopping distance and you will need to pay attention turning corners so your trailer does not climb the curb (or take out the front car in the left turn lane). To my knowledge, any trailer 19feet long or over must be equipped with it's own braking system. Most of them use electric brakes that work in conjunction with the brakes on the tow vehicle. Even with the extra braking power, you will need to leave a minimum of 4-6 seconds between you and the vehicle in front of you.

I have driven LA traffic for the last 30+ years in a tractor/trailer. The key to surviving CA traffic is timing... either leave before the rush, or after it.... but being on the freeways during rush hour will not only fray your nerves, but is not conducive to good fuel economy. If you can't get out of town before rush hour... pull out the grill and have a tailgate party until rush hour is over.... then go. It's safer and you will still have fun in the process.

Good luck to you...How hard is it to pull a travel trailer?
They are not hard to pull at all. Your suburban will handle one with no problem at all. I don't see any stress from pulling one if you are a good driver, its always the screwball driver that causes problems. The only thing I would tell you to watch out for is try not to drive when the wind is really blowing hard, pull into a rest area and try to wait it out. Just use common sense and you will be just fine. How hard is it to pull a travel trailer?
It's only a 'white-knuckle' thing on dirt roads. To make things easier on yourself try and drive at lower speeds, and make sure to swing wide when turning because a trailer effectively doubles the length of your vehicle.

Your Suburban should pull this just fine. Be sure to check the weight limit for your trailer and for heaven's sake don't EVER go over that.

I am considering getting a trailer to live in after college (and maybe even my last couple of years in college.) But I know nothing about them. I know there are: 5th wheel, travel trailers, destination trailers, etc. I don't even know where to start!!! I don't need a lot of room, I am very organized, but I would like some space for friends to stay over occasionally. I also need one in ok condition but for as cheap as possible! Any suggestions? PLEASE!What type of trailers should I consider for living in?
Any type of trailer you like is fine, the problem is where to park it with hookups. Many campgrounds charge rather high lot rents. What type of trailers should I consider for living in?
Hi. I live in a 5th wheel camper. Luckily I have a place for it. My dad owns property and he's letting me live in it on his property for free. All I had to do was hook it up to electricity and water and propane and sewer.

It's nice not having to heat a huge space. You could always look around on ebay and see if someone is selling a cheap used one.

If you decide to place it on a property "not a campsite" you'll need a way to hook it to electricity. You'll need an electrician to come in and install a 30 amp or 50 amp plug depending on your campers amperage. And also a meter socket and breaker panel.

Good luck with your camper. I'm enjoying it.What type of trailers should I consider for living in?
Be for you spend money on travel trailers check on camp sites on rent and how long you can stay there

most places will only allow you 2/3 weeks, how are you going to move it and is it made to move the type of trailer you are pulling, you mite find it cheaper to rent a room or a apartment.look at every option first then make a choice. good luck

  • How much is space rental for a travel trailer or motor home?

I'm thinking about retirement in a few years and I may buy a travel trailer and tour the United States. How much does it cost to park a travel trailer at campgrounds or other locations for a day, week, or month? I'm sure it probably varies depending upon how popular and how nice a location is, so I'm just looking for some general ideas. Do those prices include electricity, water, sewage? And if you're retired and living this way do you enjoy it?How much is space rental for a travel trailer or motor home?
Most space rents cover electric, water and sewer.

If you join a RV club the rates in the better parks is cheaper.

Travel with the againist the seasons for lower rates.

Or follow the sun, learn how to get part time park jobs, part of your pay is free space.

    No rent.

There are good books out there on RV living... I suggest you get them, try Amazon.com--

My dh and RVed for almost a year. Toured parts of the US , made friends, moved on. Very enjoyable, but you must like living in small spaces, and also, have very little with you.

You are doing the right thing in researching now.

    :) Good luck and enjoy.

How to correct wiring between travel trailer and tow vehicle?

We hooked our Chevy truck up to our travel trailer for the first time. The running lights on the trailer are dim, and when the breaks on the truck are applied, the lights go off! And when the turn signals are used, all of the lights on the trailer flash. How can we correct this? How to correct wiring between travel trailer and tow vehicle?
If you are sure that the wiring from the truck to the trailer are correct then check for a bad ground.

New to travel trailers, but i bought one, and it has vague instructions on how to turn on the heater.?

Can anyone give me some advice? I dont know the model, but not sure if they all are some what similar.New to travel trailers, but i bought one, and it has vague instructions on how to turn on the heater.?
Most RV heaters require you open the propane valve and set the thermostat. These heaters are closed system and don't have a pilot light. It helps to purge the air from the propane lines by lighting your stove. To be sure, read all your manuals and ask your dealer or repairman to show you the proper operation for you RV's systems.New to travel trailers, but i bought one, and it has vague instructions on how to turn on the heater.?
it most likely run on propane make sure the bottle valve is openNew to travel trailers, but i bought one, and it has vague instructions on how to turn on the heater.?
First make sure the vent to the ouside is clear. This is usually located outside the wall where the furnace is. Make sure you have propane and the valve is open. There is often another on off valve in the line that goes to the furnace. In mine it was under the camper. Then I would remove the outer cover so you can see into the combustion chamber. Turn the thermostat to heat then adjust the temp so it kicks on. You should see the igniter spark. It may do this several times before lighting since there may be air in the line. If you smell propane turn it off and have it serviced.

Which travel trailers makes and models are low quality ?

All of them or none of them. It is a matter of perspective. Due to their nature, they have to be lightly built. The appliances installed in them are all made by a few manufacturers, which I consider equally good. I would look at how the roof is made and things like self-leveling jacks etc. Many people buy them and hardly ever use them. Look for a used one that is in new condition. The savings would be substantial. Make sure you have a vehicle strong enough to pull one. Good luck!

Can my ford explorer SUV pull my 26 foot travel trailer?

How do i find the weight on my travel trailer and how much weight my suv can pull....can SUV's pull travel trailers? I know some small cars can pull smaller travel trailers and this one isn't too big, so was wondering if my SUV could handle it?Can my ford explorer SUV pull my 26 foot travel trailer?
Your trailer will have a Gross Vehicle Weight Specified on the vehicle information label located either on the frame or on the body of the trailer.

Compare that weight listed with the Towed Vehicle Weight rating as listed in the vehicle's owners manual to determine if the tow vehicle is capable of pulling the trailer you intend to tow.

By the way the listed limits are far exceeding the practical ones and you should select a tow vehicle rated at around 125% of the weight you intend to tow routinely. Can my ford explorer SUV pull my 26 foot travel trailer?
The gvw or gross vehicle on the trailer should be located by the coupler on a small label or plate. The towing capacity will be in your owners manual and the towing capacity of the hitch itself should be on a label on the hitch. Make sure that the weight of the trailer does not exceed the weight on either of the places on the tow vehicle and you should be fine. Can my ford explorer SUV pull my 26 foot travel trailer?
If you have a v8, the answer is probably yes. If you have a v6 the answer is definitely not. The 4.6 liter engine isn't big on horsepower, but it's rated at 6500 lbs. If your hitch is on your bumper, you may want to upgrade to a frame mounted hitch.

Question - newbie to RVs, Travel Trailers, Camping - cost to rent space in parks?

Hi - We are new to this whole RV thing - my wife and I are planning to buy a travel trailer and wanted to spend 2-3 months down south this winter (from about Dec until March) - Florida would be our first choice, especially on/near water. Please have some patience as we're new to all this %26amp; know nothing about costs, best way to do it, etc. So far, in browsing various RV parks or state parks in Florida that rent out lot spaces overnight for travel trailers, we have found that the rent per day is Surprisingly expensive !! Wow. I was thinking that rental rates would be reasonable, like 150 or 200 a month to park your trailer. But I am finding prices routinely of 25-30 dollars a night ($900 a month !!) I had No idea rv parks charged that much. That really shocked us. Is there some other way or something we don't know about in renting spaces in RV parks such that we could find something much more reasonable ?? Now we are second guessing our entire plan and thinking heck it would be about the same price or possibly even cheaper to just rent a small place in Florida for a couple of months over the winter (especially considering all the empty %26amp; vacant real estate in Florida right now, Landlords are desperate for renters down there). Well, any ideas, experiences, suggestions from seasoned RV and travel-trailer veterans on this high lot rental cost issue would be greatly appreciated !!!!|||Yahoo has a forum for RVers, people are very helpful on there..check it out.

But in general if you specify you want a seasonal site at a campground the cost is usually cheaper.

Another way to go are to use state parks, they don't always have cable or WIFI but will have electric and sewer on some sites.

    Don't give up!

Camping is a great thing to do, and a travel trailer is the best way to do it (in my opinion anyway) we have a 32' travel trailer and absolutely love it and camping.

    Good luck

EDIT: Go to yahoo groups..then travel then navagate from there, depending on what part of the country you are interested in. I use East Coast RVing. Check out NEW SMYRNA BEACH campground and RV park, Jan, Ferb and March rates are as of now $520.00 + 12% tax a month.

It includes electric AC and I forget what else!|||Also another resource is mobile home parks if your rig is of a certain size there are literally hundreds of "snow bird" mobile home parks that have low monthly rates. I recommend to you to look into the Yahoo Groups section and look up groups that live in rvs full time and check out the resources there. One that will help you save a few bucks is "Boondocking" as this is for info sharing free camping locations across the whole USA.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Boondockin鈥?/a>|||When inquiring about rental rates did you specify monthly rates? They will almost always be quite a bit less than the daily rate for a month. And winter rates are somewhat higher than the other seasons. Closer to good water will also cost more. Ever hear of a "snowbird"? That's what you will be by spending the winter in Florida. I know several retired couples and one single man who do this every winter. They make reservations ahead of time. I don't know what they pay but they couldn't afford it at the daily rates. I have been around the Orlando and Tampa areas 5 or 6 times during the summer taking grandkids to Disney and visiting relatives, took the trailer to save on motel costs. The places I stayed at that had rates posted showed a considerable difference in the monthly rate over the same number of days at the daily rate.
