How are travel trailers more economical?

i was reading on a website that travel trailers are arguably more economical of all the rv 's. i want to know how this is.|||Less maintenance, cheaper to buy, and if you park it and don't use it, you have less investment loss.|||My husband and I have been living in an RV for 2 years (a modest travel trailer, 30 feet long) and honestly, I don't believe they are any more economical than a Class A or C motorhome.

If you have a travel trailer, now you are dealing with TWO items that need updating and repairs (a car to tow it and the travel trailer). That means two insurance premiums, maintenance on two items, new tires (if you travel a lot like we do) on both the car and travel trailer. Also, motorhomes typically come with a propane generator installed, so you can camp off the grid and not pay campsites, etc. Travel trailers do not come with generators, so you might be looking at a big investment there (or having to pay to camp in campsites otherwise).

As for gas mileage, we got 8 miles to the gallon by towing a 5000 pound travel trailer. Our relative in a big motorhome got better gas mileage than we did!

Of course, there are different sizes of travel trailers, different vehicles you might pull the trailer with - so these examples will vary. But if you are looking at a livable travel trailer (like ours, for full time rving) vs. a livable Class A or C motorhome, I can tell you after 2 years we are currently selling our travel trailer and going with the motorhome.

Sure, a motorhome is an actual vehicle, so you will need to take good care of it, get oil changes, etc. but I'd much rather pamper one vehicle than two! And, again...insurance costs double when you have a car and travel trailer.

Hope this helps!|||Less gas to run them.
